Massage Therapy

Chambers Chiropractic believes that Chiropractic and Massage support each other. While chiropractic care can help your nervous system correct itself, massage therapy can help muscles, ligaments and fascia, as well as contribute to mental well-being. Massage therapy is increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations.

Studies on the benefits of massage therapy demonstrate that it is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain and muscle tension, and may also be helpful for:

  • Anxiety
  • Myofascial pain syndrome
  • Digestive disorders
  • Paresthesias and nerve pain
  • Strengthening the immune system
  • Soft tissue strains or injuries
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Sports injuries
  • Headaches
  • Temporomandibular joint pain
  • Insomnia related to stress
  • Improved circulation

Chiropractic adjustments can often be done more easily, and with less discomfort when soft tissue has been relaxed with massage. Soft tissue irritation and guarding can spread because it causes protective muscle tightening in surrounding areas. Over time, tight, inflamed muscles and fascia (together called myofascia) suffer poor circulation and can develop glue-like myofascial adhesions, which prevent muscles from lengthening completely. Painful trigger points can also develop, often referring pain or tingling to other areas in the body. In extreme cases, tight muscles can compress nerves or blood vessels.

Gentle kneading and stretching can relax strained, contracted muscles and relieve irritated fascia. Ligament sprains and muscle strains, as well as adhered fascia, can be relieved directly by massage therapy, which can increase circulation, range of motion, and help tissue properly repair. This can also reduce swelling and promote healing by removing waste products and bringing in nutrient rich blood flow, increasing and speeding the healing process. Massage Therapy also can help you stay in alignment before and after a chiropractic adjustment.
